✦ Festival of the Year

Dating back over 400 years, the Awa Odori is one of Japan's biggest and most exuberant dance festivals. Thousands of performers called "odori-ko" dance through the streets to the hypnotic beat of shamisen, taiko drums, and hand-held bells. Visitors are welcomed to join the "fool's dance" — as the famous saying goes: "You're a fool whether you dance or not, so you might as well dance!"
